Canadian University Ends Women’s Ice Hockey Season After Hazing Incident

Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has suspended 19 of the 24 players on the women’s ice hockey team due to a reported hazing incident at a campus party in September. The five team members who were not suspended, are thought to be the first-year students who were the subject of the hazing. As a result of the suspension, the hockey team has forfeited all its remaining games for the season. Before the decision to end the hockey team’s season, the women’s hocky team had a record of two wins, eight losses, and two ties.

While details of the hazing were not released, a university spokesperson stated that “it involved excessive drinking, intimidation, humiliation, personal disrespect, in short, bullying.”
