A Dozen Women in New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

levyTeresa Levey was promoted to senior vice president and chief administrative officer at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She has spent her entire career at the medical center, most recently serving as vice president of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute. She joined the university’s staff in 1983.

Levey is a graduate if Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee.

Pamela.HammondPamela V. Hammond, provost at Hampton University in Virginia, was elected chair of the board of directors of the National Institute of Aerospace. The institute is a nonprofit research association conducting advanced study in aerospace and atmospheric science. She has served as the group’s vice chair for the past two years.

Dr. Hammond is the former dean of the School of Nursing at Hampton University. She is a graduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama and holds a master’s degree in maternal child nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dr. Hammond earned an educational doctorate from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Jossette_BonteJosette Bonte was named chief strategy officer and director of research and industry relations for the Institute for Communication Technology Management at the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California. She was the executive digital media strategist for the Internet Business Solutions Group at Cisco Inc.

Dr. Bonte earned a master of fine arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Ph.D. in information sciences and telecommunications at the Sorbonne.

MathayPatti Mathay was promoted to registrar at the University of Pittsburgh. She began her career as a clerk in the university’s Computing Services and Systems Development division. She joined the registrar’s office in 1998 and was named assistant registrar in 2007 and associate registrar in 2011.

Mathay is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

deborah-l-hayesDeborah L. Hayes was appointed vice president for communications and marketing at the University of Delaware. From 2002 to 2011, Hayes was managing director of communications for the Pew Charitable Trusts in Philadelphia. She is the former director of media and corporation relations for Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions.

Hayes holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Tennessee State University.

Parker-DanaDana Parker was named director of development for Clermont College of the University of Cincinnati. She has worked in many roles in several Ohio school districts and is the co-founder for S3C, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to fight cancer.

Parker is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and holds a master’s degree in education from Marygrove College in Detroit.

2010_11_12Career ServicesAdministrationRachel BrownRachel A. Brown was appointed assistant provost for career services at George Washington University in the nation’s capital. She has been serving as senior director of the Career Center at Temple University in Philadelphia. She will begin her new job on February 6.

Brown is a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

KeefePhotoStacey Keefe was named executive director of the Raymond von Dran Innovation and Disruptive Entrepreneurship Accelerator at Syracuse University. The accelerator supports student start-up initiatives with mentoring, counseling, and financial support.

Since 2007, Keefe has served as the executive director of the University Center for Entrepreneurship. She holds a master of public administration degree from Syracuse University.

lawrence_luanne_220-lgLuanne Lawrence has been appointed associate chancellor for strategic communications at the University of California at Davis. She has been serving as vice president for communications at the University of South Carolina. She will begin her new duties on March 25.

Lawrence is a graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania and earned a master’s degree in education at the Harrisburg campus of Pennsylvania State University.

Michelle Thompson-Taylor was named the inaugural director of the Intercultural Center at the University of Rochester. She has served in the university’s admissions office since 2004.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Thompson-Taylor is a graduate of the University of the West Indies. She holds a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York.

M_sible_bio_picJill Sible, a professor of biological sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, has been appointed assistant vice president for undergraduate education at the university. She has been on the Virginia Tech faculty since 1998.

Professor Sible is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she majored in biochemistry. She earned a Ph.D. in cell, molecular, and developmental biology at the Tufts University School of Medicine.

lrusselLucy Sankey Russell is the new assistant vice provost for undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas. Since 2007, she has served as director of the Center for Undergraduate Excellence at the University of Virginia.

Russell is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Michigan School of Law.
