In Memoriam: Nancy Bernkopf Tucker, 1948-2012

Nancy Bernkopf Tucker, a professor of history at the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., died earlier this month at her home in Potomac, Maryland. She was 64 years old and suffered from cancer.

A native of New York City, Dr. Tucker was a graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She held a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University. She joined the Georgetown University faculty in 1987. Previously, she had taught at New York University and Colgate University.

An expert on U.S./China relations, Professor Tucker took a leave of absence from Georgetown in 2006 to serve as the nation’s first assistant deputy director of national intelligence for analytic integrity and standards.

Dr. Tucker was the author or editor of eight books. Her most recent book, The China Threat: Memories, Myths, and Realities in the 1950s, was published by Columbia University Press this past May.
