Fourteen Women Taking on New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

norris-thumbGail N. Norris was promoted to vice president and general counsel for the University of Rochester. Previously, Norris has served as senior legal counsel, director of the Office of Technology Transfer, and vice provost for technology transfer.

Norris is a graduate of Syracuse University and the Albany Law School of Union University.

albertKatrice A. Albert was appointed vice president for equity and diversity at the University of Minnesota. Since 2005, she has served as vice provost for equity, diversity, and community outreach and as the chief diversity officer at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She will assume her new duties on June 28, 2013.

Dr. Albert is a magna cum laude graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Auburn University.

mugshot - Susan Ford - Associate Vice Chancellor for the GraduatSusan M. Ford was appointed associate dean and director of the Graduate School at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She is a professor and interim chair of the department of anthropology at the university. Dr. Ford has been on the university’s faculty since 1980.

Dr. Ford is a graduate of Roanoke College in Virginia and holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh.

McElwain-Ann-8-12-022wcc-2-143x148Ann McElwain was named assistant vice president for development at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences of the University of Florida. She has served in the post on an interim basis since August. Previously, she was an assistant vice president for development of the University of Florida Foundation and chief development officer for the university’s College of Engineering.

McElwain is a graduate of the University of Florida and holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University.

Andrea-L.-Tyler-198x300Andrea L. Taylor was appointed director of graduate STEM research at Tennessee State University in Nashville. She was the director of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in Tennessee.

A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, Dr. Taylor and holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Miami University of Ohio.

winklefoosNatalie Winkelfoos was named the Delta Lodge Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Oberlin College in Ohio. She has served in the role on an interim basis since June.

Winkelfoos is a 2003 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, and holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Kent State University in Ohio.

LiaNewmanLia Newman was appointed director of the William H. Van Every/Edward M. Smith Galleries at Davidson College in North Carolina. Since 2002, she has been the director of programs and exhibitions at Artspace Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Newman is a graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She holds a master’s degree in liberal studies from Duke University.

CurrarinoFabiola Currarino was named executive director of the Career Management Center at Rice University in Houston. She was associate director of the Career Development Office at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Currarino is a graduate of Pontificia Universidad Catolica in Lima, Peru. She earned an MBA at Harvard Business School.

elainePElaine Papoulias is the new executive director of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University. She is the former director of the Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East-Central Europe at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard,

Papoulias is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and holds a master of arts in law and diplomacy from Tufts University.

kristin-blackerKristin Blackler, was named sustainability director at Montana State University. She was program director at the Sustainability Solution Institute at the University of California at San Diego.

Blacker is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she majored in environmental studies.

Berg-KKathleen Berg was promoted to director of the Curriculum Research and Development Group in the College of Education at the University of Hawaii Manoa. For the past nine years, Dr. Berg has been associate director of the group.

Dr. Berg retired in 2009 as a brigadier general in the Hawaii Air National Guard. She holds a doctorate in educational psychology.

ReinhardtRosemary Reinhardt was appointed director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Boise State University. She was the interim vice president for university advancement at Boise State and from 2007 to 2011 was a special assistant to the president of the university.

Reinhardt holds a master’s degree in arts management from Wayne State University in Detroit.

sherriewhaleySherrie R. Whaley is the new director of communications for the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She was director of communications and marketing for the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Whaley is a graduate of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. She holds a master’s degree in journalism and an educational doctorate from Ohio State University.

crittendon_releaseJannifer Crittendon was appointed director of opportunity and access at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She was the director of the Office of Institutional Equity at the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Crittendon holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University-South Bend. She earned a doctorate in educational administration from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.
