The First Woman President of the University of Alabama

Judy Bonner was named president of the University of Alabama. She is the first woman to lead the university. Bonner has been serving as interim president. Since 2006, Dr. Bonner has served as executive vice president and provost at the university. From 2003 to 2006 she was vice president for academic affairs.

Dr. Bonner holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in food and nutrition from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in human nutrition from Ohio State University.

In a statement, Dr. Bonner said, “It is with great pleasure that I accept the position of president of The University of Alabama. We have so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to and, together with our alumni, fans, friends and supporters, we will remain committed to excellence and quality in everything we do.”
