Nancy Gutierrez Elected President of the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences

Nancy Gutierrez, dean of the College of Liberal Art and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, was elected president of the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS). The CCAS represents more than 1,500 deans, associate deans, and assistant deans at 500 colleges and universities.

Dean Gutierrez, who will take office as president in November 2013, stated, “CCAS plays a unique role in American higher education, encouraging both intellectual leadership and practical collaboration. It’s an organization where deans step up to help other deans find the best ways to promote our missions of promoting foundational learning and furthering our institutions’ commitments to basic research.”

Dr. Gutierrez has served as dean at UNCC since July 2005. Previously, she was vice provost for academic affairs and professor of English at Arizona State University. Dean Gutierrez is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Chicago.
