Claire Sterk Appointed Acting Provost at Emory University in Atlanta

Claire Sterk has been named acting provost at Emory University in Atlanta. On November 10, she will take over for Earl Lewis, who is leaving to become president of the Andrew Mellon Foundation.

Dr. Sterk has been serving since 2005 as senior vice provost for academic planning and faculty development. She has served for five years as chair of the department of behavioral sciences and health education and is the former dean for research at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health.

A native of The Netherlands, Dr. Sterk holds doctoral degrees in anthropology and sociology from the University of Utrecht and Erasmus University in Rotterdam, respectively.
