University of Nebraska Professor Teams Up With Lady Gaga

Susan M. Swearer, professor of school psychology in the College of Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, was named chair of the six-member Research and Advisory Board of the Born This Way Foundation. The foundation, established by vocal artist Lady Gaga, fosters tolerance and youth empowerment programs. The new advisory board will evaluate the foundation’s current programs and offer recommendations on new initiatives the foundation may consider.

Dr. Swearer is co-director of the Bullying Research Network, a field in which the Born This Way Foundation has become involved. Professor Swearer is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate in school psychology from the University of Texas. She is the co-editor of Bullying in American Schools: A Social-Ecological Perspective on Prevention and Intervention (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 2003).
