Four Women Named to Dean Posts at Bastyr University

Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington, has announced the appointments of four women to dean or associate dean positions. The university enrolls about 1,000 students in science-based natural medicine degree programs. Women make up about 82 percent of the student body.

Hazel Philp is the new dean of the School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She has been on the faculty at Bastyr University since 2010. She is the former academic dean at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle and the former chair of the acupuncture program at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Phoenix. Dr. Philp holds a master degree and a doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from Bastyr University.

Lynelle Golden was named dean of the School of Natural Health Arts and Sciences. A member of the faculty since 2007, she has been serving as chair of the department of basic sciences at the university. She served for 10 years on the faculty at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Dr. Golden holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in life sciences/physiology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Arianna Staruch was appointed associate dean for academics at the School of Naturopathic Medicine. She joined the university’s faculty last year. Previously, Dr. Staruch was a professor and academic dean at the American College of Healthcare and Sciences in Portland, Oregon. She is a 1997 graduate of the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland.

Joni Olehausen was named associate clinical dean at the School of Naturopathic Medicine.  She was the dean of medical education at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Olehausen previously served as dean of clinical education at Southwest. She earned her doctorate of naturopathy degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland in 1997.
