Two Women to Share Presidential Chair in Feminist Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz

Professors Aptheker and Yamashita

Bettina Aptheker and Karen Yamashita has been selected as co-holders of the University of California Presidential Chair in Feminist, Critical Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz. The chair provides funding to develop undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as well as to support research and intellectual life through seminars, colloquia, and other events.

Professor Aptheker is a professor of feminist studies. She holds a Ph.D. in the history of consciousness from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Karen Yamashita is a professor creative writing. She earned the 2011 California Book Award for her novel I Hotel. She has written four other novels.
