Two Women Appointed Distinguished University Professors at Case Western Reserve

Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland has announced the appointment of two women to the position of Distinguished University Professor. The designation honors “outstanding contributions of full-time, tenured professors with exceptional academic records of research, scholarship. teaching, and service.”

Claudia Coulton is the Lillian F. Harris Professor of Urban Social Science Research at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at the university. She is also the director of the Center for Urban Poverty and Community Development. She joined the faculty at the university in 1978.

Professor Coulton is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. She earned a master of social work degree from Ohio State University and doctoral degree at Case Western Reserve.

Eva Kahana is the Robson Professor of Sociology, Humanities, Nursing and Medicine in the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds secondary appointments in the School of Nursing, the School of Applied Social Sciences, and the School of Medicine. She is the director of the university’s Elderly Care Research Center. Dr. Kahana has been on the faculty at Case Western Reserve for 28 years.

Dr. Kahana is a graduate of the Stern College for Women in New York. She earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology at the City University of New York and a Ph.D. in human development from the University of Chicago.
