Latin American Studies Association Gives Outs Its Annual Book Award

Beth Jorgensen, professor of Spanish-American literature at the University of Rochester, has won the book award in the humanities from the Mexico section of the Latin American Studies Association. Professor Jorgensen was honored for her book, Documents in Crisis: Nonfiction Literatures in Twentieth-Century Mexico (State University of New York Press). The prize committee states that she was honored for focusing on “nonfiction writing as a fundamental part of the landscape that has long been too heavily focused on poetry and fiction.”

Professor Jorgensen is also the author of The Writing of Elena Poniatowska (University of Texas Press, 1994) and the co-editor of The Contemporary Mexican Chronicle (State University of New York Press, 2002).

Dr. Jorgensen earned her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
