University of Nevada Professor Wins International Latino Book Award

Emma Sepulveda, Foundation Professor at the University of Nevada Reno and director of the Latino Research Center at the university, received the International Latino Book Award in the Best History/Political Book category. She was honored for her book Setenta Dias de Noche (Seventy Days of Night), which tells the tale of 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground in 2010 and how their families coped with the crisis. Written in Spanish, the book is now being translated to English for publication in the United States.

Professor Sepulveda is the author or co-author of 25 books. She is also a columnist for the Reno Gazette Journal.

Born in Argentina and raised in Chile, Dr. Sepulveda came to the United States in 1974. She is a graduate of the University of Nevada and earned a Ph.D. at the University of California at Davis.
