Gift Establishes Center for Women in Communications at Florida International University

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University in Miami received a major gift from dean emerita and professor Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver. The gift will fund the establishment of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication. The center will officially open this fall on the university’s Biscayne Bay campus.

Dean Kopenhaver joined the faculty at Florida International University in 1973 and rose through the ranks  to become dean in 2003. She served in that position for eight years.

Dr. Kopenhaver is a summa cum laude graduate of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin and an educational doctorate at Nova Southeastern University.
