Five Women Named to Dean Posts

Stephanie Coursey Bailey was named interim dean of the College of Public Service and Urban Affairs at Tennessee State University in Nashville. She has served most recently as chief of public health for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Dr. Bailey is a graduate of Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. She earned her M.D. from the Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee.

Linda Maule was named the inaugural dean of the University College at Indiana State University. Dr. Maule has been on the Indiana State faculty since 1996, teaching in political science and women’s studies. She has been serving as coordinator of the university’s Foundational Studies Program.

Dr. Maule holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees from Washington State University.

Mary Catherine Watzin was named dean of the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University. Her appointment is effective on October 15. She has been serving as dean of the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.

Dr. Watzin is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She earned a Ph.D. in marine sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Phyllis Craig-Taylor was appointed dean of the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. She has been serving as associate dean for academics at the Charlotte School of Law in Charlotte, North Carolina. She previously served on the faculty at the University of Florida College of Law.

Craig-Taylor is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she also earned her juris doctorate. She added a master’s degree in law from Columbia University.

Donna L. Hammond was named acting dean of the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. Dr. Hammond joined the faculty at the medical school in 2000 as a professor in the departments of anesthesia and pharmacology. Most recently, she has been serving as interim executive associate dean at the College of Medicine.

Dr. Hammond is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Chicago.
