A Persisting Gender Gap for Salaries in Academic Medicine

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found a significant gender gap in salaries earned by women in academic medicine who had won grants from the National Institutes of Health. The results showed that women had an average salary of $167,669, whereas men had a mean salary of $200,433.

The study found that even when the figures were adjusted for specialty, academic rank, and publications record, women still earned significantly less than men.
