Two Women Scholars Awarded Tenure at Bates College

Bates College, the highly ranked liberal arts institution in Lewiston, Maine, has announced that four faculty members will be awarded tenured, effective on August 1. Two of the four newly tenured faculty are women.

Sue E. Houchins is an associate professor of African American studies. She also teaches in the women and gender studies program at Bates. Prior to joining the Bates College faculty in 2003, she taught at Scripps College in California for 22 years.

Professor Houchins holds bachelor’s and graduate degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Nancy S. Koven is an associate professor of psychology at Bates. She joined the Bates faculty in 2006.

Dr. Koven is a graduate of Swarthmore College. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois.
