In Memoriam: Sabine G. MacCormack, 1941-2012

Sabine MacCormack, the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Professor of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, died last week after suffering a heart attack while gardening at her home in South Bend, Indiana. She was 71 years old.

A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Professor Sabine held bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Oxford University. Before she joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 2003, she has taught history and the classics at the University of Texas, Stanford University, and the University of Michigan.

Her scholarship focused on both ancient Rome and colonial Latin America.
