College of Saint Joseph Is Now a University

The College of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, is now the University of Saint Joseph. The institution was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy of Connecticut.

On the undergraduate level, the university remains a woman’s college for residential students. But men are permitted to enroll in its undergraduate Program for Adult Learners.

At the graduate level, the university’s programs are fully coeducational. The university offers a wide range of master’s degree programs and a doctorate in pharmacy. A doctorate in nursing practice is in the planning stages.

Pamela Trotman Reid in the institution’s eighth president. A developmental psychologist, Dr. Reid took office in Janaury 2008. She holds a bachelor’s degree rom Howard University, a master’s degree from Temple University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
