University of Cincinnati Establishes a Women in Leadership and Learning Program

The University of Cincinnati has announced the launch of its Women in Leadership and Learning (WILL) program. The program, scheduled to being this fall, will apply classroom and experiential learning components built on themes of social justice and activism.

The program is a collaboration of the university’s Women’s Center and the department of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. The initiative, which will incorporate a core curriculum based in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies as well as a co-curricular leadership development program, is modeled on the original WILL program established at the University of Richmond in 1980.

The program is under the direction of Amy Howton, assistant director of the University of Cincinnati Women’s Center. “WILL is a multi-year learning community comprised of both academic and co-curricular experiences designed to develop a student’s leadership over the course of her collegiate experience,” Howton said.

Dr. Howton holds a master’s degree in women’s studies and a doctorate in counselor education.
