Linda Lucas Named Provost at the University of Alabama Birmingham

Linda Lucas was named provost at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She has been serving in the role on an interim basis for the past year.  She has been a member of the faculty at the university since 1982. Dr. Lucas was named chair of the department of biomedical engineering in 1995.

University president Carol Z. Garrison stated when making the appointment, “She is high energy, innovative, and devoted to UAB and will continue to push to improve the academic experience of our students and faculty.”

Dr. Lucas holds bachelor’s degrees from the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama Birmingham. She holds master’s degrees in mathematics, education, and materials engineering and a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She is the former president of both the Society for Biomaterials and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
