University of Alabama Birmingham Names Two Women to Endowed Chairs

The University of Alabama Birmingham has named two women to endowed professorships.

Boni E. Elewski, professor of dermatology, was appointed the inaugural holder of the James E. Elder, M.D. Endowed Professorship for Graduate Education. Dr. Elewski has been on the university’s faculty since 2005.

Dr. Elewski is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio and completed her medical degree at Ohio State University.

Karlene K. Ball was named University Professor of Psychology. She was also appointed director of the Center for Research in Applied Gerontology. Dr. Ball joined the university’s faculty in 1990 and has served as the associate director of the university’s Center for Aging.

Dr. Ball is a graduate of Indiana University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology from Northwestern University.
