Marsha Rappley to Lead Organization of Medical School Deans

Marsha D. Rappley, dean of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University, has been voted chair-elect of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Council of Deans. She will take on her new role in November.

Dr. Rappley has been dean of the College of Human Medicine at MSU since 2006. She is the first graduate of the college to lead it as dean. She has been on the faculty at Michigan State University since 1988.

A native of Flint, Michigan, she enrolled at Wayne State University and earned a degree in English literature. She aspired to be a high school teacher. She became a licensed practical nurse to earn money while waiting for a teaching job to open up. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Michigan and two years later she entered medical school.
