Lawsuit Filed Charging Military Academies With Inadequate Response to Sexual Assaults

A lawsuit was filed in federal district court claiming that the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy “systematically and repeatedly ignore rampant sexual harassment. They have a high tolerance for sexual predators in their ranks and ‘zero tolerance’ for those who report rape, sexual assault, and harassment.”

The suit charges that the military and the academies have “a long-standing pattern of ignoring Congressional mandates designed to ameliorate the military forces and academies’ dismal record of accountability for rapes and sexual assaults.”

The suit was filed by two women, one who attended each institution. The women claimed they were raped and that they had to leave the institutions because they were unable to deal with the psychological repercussions of the assaults.
