Fahima Aziz Chosen to Lead the Asian University for Women

The board of trustees of the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh, has announced the appointment of Fahima Aziz as the university’s next vice chancellor. The position of vice chancellor is akin to a university presidency in the United States.

Dr. Aziz is a U.S. national whose ancestors are from Bangladesh. She is currently a professor of economics and holds the Endowed Alkire Chair in International Business at Hamline University in St. Paul., Minnesota. She has served as chair of departments of management and economics at Hamline and also led the environmental studies program. Dr. Aziz is expected to assume her new post in May.

Dr. Aziz is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Aziz stated, “I am drawn to AUW because of its mission to educate women for lives of leadership and service. I am a passionate supporter of women’s education and educational access in general. AUW embodies all of these values.  I am very excited and look forward to working collaboratively with AUW’s dedicated faculty, staff, and amazing students.”
