Carol Folt to Lead Dartmouth College

The board of trustees of Dartmouth College has named Carol L. Folt as interim president. She will take over on July 1 when Dartmouth’s current president Jim Yong Kim leaves to become president of the World Bank.

Dr. Folt currently serves as provost at Dartmouth. She has held that position since 2009. Previously, she was the inaugural holder of an endowed chair in the biological sciences and has served as dean of the faculty and dean of graduate studies. She joined the Dartmouth faculty in 1983. Dr. Folt has stated that she does not want to be considered for the post as permanent president of Dartmouth.

Dr. Folt holds a bachelor’s degree in aquatic biology and a master’s degree in biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis.
