University of Arkansas Professor Wins Book Award

Jeannie Whayne, professor of history at the University of Arkansas, has won the J.G. Ragsdale Award from the Arkansas Historical Association. She is being honored for the best book-length non-fiction study of any aspect of Arkansas history for her work, Delta Empire: Lee Wilson and the Transformation of Agriculture in the New South (Louisiana State University Press, 2011). She will receive the award at the annual conference of the Arkansas Historical Association in April.
Professor Whayne was also chosen as president-elect of the Washington, D.C.-based Agriculture History Society. She will begin her term as president of the society in June 2013.
Dr. Whayne has been on the faculty at the University of Arkansas since 1990. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of California at San Diego.
