Ten Women Gain Promotions at Marquette University

Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, recently announced the promotions of 28 members of its faculty. Sixteen faculty members were promoted to the rank of full professor. Four of these are women. Another 12 faculty members were promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Six of these are women.

Irene Calboni was named a full professor of law. Dr. Calboli holds an LL.B., summa cum laude, and a doctorate of research degree in intellectual property and antitrust law from the University of Bologna in Italy and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mary Ann Farkas was appointed a full professor of social and cultural sciences. Professor Farkas holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She earned a Ph.D. at Michigan State University.

Anne M. Pasero was promoted to professor of foreign language and literatures. She has taught at Marquette for more than 30 years. Dr. Pasero is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Washington and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Southern California.

Jane Peterson was appointed professor of social and cultural sciences. She has taught at Marquette since 1995. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Professor Peterson earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Arizona State University.

Amy Blair was promoted to associate professor of English. She teaches courses in colonial literature and in late 19th- and early 20th-century literature. She is completing work on a book entitled Reading Up: Middle-Class Readers and the American Dream.

SuJean Choi was named associate professor of biomedical sciences. She joined the Marquette faculty in 2007 after teaching at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Choi is a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Rochester.

Marie Hoeger Bement was promoted to associate professor of physical therapy in the College of Health Sciences at Marquette. Dr. Bement is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in rehabilitative science at the University of Iowa.

Maura Moyle was appointed associate professor of speech pathology and audiology. Dr. Moyle received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in communicative disorders, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Theresa W. Tobin was named associate professor of philosophy. She has taught at Marquette since 2005. A 1997 graduate of Marquette, she earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Colorado.

Olga Yakusheva was promoted to associate professor of economics. Dr. Yakusheva is a graduate of Kazakh State University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois.
