Smith College to Serve as a Planning Partner for the Asian Women’s Leadership University in Malaysia

Last fall WIAReport published a piece on a proposal of establish the Asian Women’s Leadership University in Malaysia. The university aims to teach a wide cross-section of women from different backgrounds to become leaders in the professions, business, and government. The university hopes to enroll its first 100 students in 2015. Eventually, the university hopes to enroll 2,000 students at a residential college modeled after the Seven Sister liberal arts colleges in the United States.

Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, has agreed to become the primary U.S. planning partner for the Asian Women’s Leadership University. Scholars at Smith will work with academics from Asia and the Middle East to develop curriculum with an emphasis of preparing women for leadership roles in society.
