Mary Wagner to Receive a Major Award From the American Library Association

Mary Wagner, professor of library and information science at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been selected to receive the 2012 Beta Phi Mu Award from the American Library Association.

The award is presented to a library school faculty member who demonstrates distinguished service to education in librarianship. In 1986, when the University of Minnesota closed its accredited library degree program, aspiring librarians had no educational options within the state. Wagner helped establish a library science program at St. Catherine University. After a number of successful years, she initiated the formal accreditation process, and in 2011, the library science program received full accreditation by the American Library Association.

Professor Wagner will receive the award at the ALA Conference in Anaheim, California this June.
