In Memoriam: Elsie Hebert (1925-2012)

Elsie Hebert, longtime professor at the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University, died earlier this month at the age of 86.

Dr. Hebert was a native of Baton Rouge and was valedictorian of the city’s Baker High School. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from LSU and worked as a reporter and editor for two newspapers. She first joined the faculty at LSU in 1959 and later taught at Nichols State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She returned to LSU in 1965 and remained on the faculty there until her retirement in 2000. During this period she earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas.
