The Gender Gap in Earnings for Recent College Graduates

New data from the U.S. Department of Education shows that women college graduates continue to earn less than men with a similar level of education. The study surveyed students who received their first bachelor’s degree during the 2007-08 academic year. Of the students who were employed full-time in 2009, the median income of men was $40,000. For women, the median income was $34,600.

More than 35 percent of the men in the study earned more than $49,201 in 2009. But only 16.8 percent of women earned more than $49,201.
