Gender Gap in Graduate Enrollments at Princeton

In 2009 women made up 59 percent of all students enrolled in graduate programs in the United States. But at Princeton University, women are not doing as well. The university reports that of 1,197 students admitted to Princeton’s graduate school programs this spring, only 460, or 38 percent, are women. Many of Princeton’s most prestigious graduate programs are in the so-called STEM fields where the applicant pools have a small percentage of women.

The latest U.S. Department of Education data shows that women are 49 percent of Princeton’s undergraduate student body.
