Education Department Official to Join the Faculty at New York University

kanterMartha J. Kanter, under secretary of education at the U.S. Department of Education, has accepted a two-year appointment as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Higher Education at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development of New York University.

Dr. Kanter has served as under secretary of education since 2009. Prior to her government service, she was chancellor of the Foothill-DeAnza Community College District in California from 2003 to 2009. Earlier, she served for 10 years as president of De Anza College in Cupertino, California.

Professor Kanter is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and an educational doctorate from the University of San Francisco.
