All listed individuals are very deserving women. In perusing the list, however, it appears that none are women of Latino background. Yet, there are so many Latinas doing great work and deserving of this kind of recognition. Thus, their total absence seems to indicate that they are invisible to the broader community of those who value women and their intellectual contributions. Or is it perhaps that Latina/os as a group are altogether invisible as part of the fabric of our communities large and small? I hope that future efforts to honor deserving women with honorary degrees are inclusive of the great work and contributions by Latinas of many backgrounds.
